Vertical cut grooves. Performances were recorded on a large wax cylinder, then pantographed onto the disc master. 80 rpm was used for Edison Diamond Discs, as well as Pathé and others, before 78 rpm became standard. Note "For United States Consumption Only."

The grooves are vertical cut, i.e., changes to the vertical height of the groove represent the waveform. Vertical cut was widely used prior to 1920 due to Victor's patent on lateral cut records.
