Developed for the first IBM PC by Shugart after he left IBM to start his own company. Originally held about 100 kB. This was the disk adopted by the Apple II in 1978

There is a story that the size originated in an early conversation between Alan Shugart and An Wang in which Wang pointed at a napkin on the table and said it should be "about that size." Unfortunately, the story is apparently untrue.
