Josép Escobar was a Spanish cartoonist and animator who invented and patented the Cine Scob, a children's projector for paper films. The films were 20 m in length (about 1000 frames). The illustrations were printed in three color chromolithography. The projector bulb illuminated the front of the paper strip, with the lens focusing the reflected light (like an opaque projector or epidioscope). The toy lasted on the market until the 1960s, when toy projectors like the Cinexen, which used celluloid film cartridges, became popular.

Escobar was most famous for his comic strip characters Zipi and Zape.
