The name "Ediphone" wasn't trademarked by the Edison company until 1917, but Edison had been selling cylinder phonographs as dictation machines since 1904 or earlier. They continued to be used into the 1950s, even after Dictaphone came out with the Dictabelt machine.
The cylinder was made of soft wax that could easily be shaved for reuse.
