For a toy magic lantern with a rotating shutter. Turning the crank rotated the shutter and the picture disc in opposite directions. The disc was advanced intermittently by a mechanism similar to a Maltese cross.
Ernst Plank was a well-established maker of magic lanterns, steam engines and metal toys.
