The format for an amateur camera designed by Enoch J. Rector (who also invented the Veriscope). The Ikonograph was the first projector that could run a film backwards, an astonishing effect at the time. A narrow-gauge format for amateurs, very similar to the Biokam format. The camera also functioned as a projector. The mechanism could be driven by a spring-wound motor or hand cranked. Like other 17.5 gauge formats, the film was manufactured by splitting 35 mm film down the center.
