Like IMAX, Omnimax stores large frames on horizontally oriented 70 mm film. The camera uses a fisheye lens (hence the distortion of the images to the right) that allows it to capture an extremely wide view both vertically and horizontally. The film is then projected through a similar lens onto the interior of a spherical dome. The stadium seating is like that of an IMAX theater and the dome is oriented towards the front of the theater. It's an extreme version of the Cinerama curved screen that envelops the audience even more completely.
