The record could be played while watching the animation through a slotted cardboard disc. Although the instructions on the back call it a zoetrope, it's closer to a phenakistoscope.

Hot Gossip was a British dance troupe that performed on several television shows in the 1970s. One of the group members at the time of this record was Sarah Brightman (upper left in the sleeve photo), who went on to fame as Andrew Lloyd Webber's wife and the originator of the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera.
