The original Teddy Ruxpin was developed in 1985 by Worlds of Wonder using standard cassette tapes. One track held audio and the other track held data that controlled the eyes and mouth of the animatronic teddy bear. Worlds of Wonder was out of business by 1988. Hasbro acquired the rights and produced Teddy Ruxpin from 1991 to 1996, replacing the cassette with this continuous tape cartridge.

Alchemy II was founded in 1980 by Ken Forsse. Teddy Ruxpin was released by the company in 1985. Worlds of Wonder provided distribution and financing.
