A 6½ in. cylinder manufactured by Jules Cuendet, a Swiss music box maker located in the St. Croix area of Switzerland. The Cuendet family were watchmakers, like the Mermods, and were also located in the St. Croix area.
Cylinders for music boxes like those made by Mermod Frères were expensive. The l'Universelle cylinder carried only one tune, making it affordable to a wider market.
