W-VHS was an analog, metal-particle tape cassette introduced in Japan for the MUSE Hi-Vision HDTV format (1035i). The format was developed in Japan during the 1980s and broadcast by NHK from 1988 to 2007. This is the same format used by the Hi-Vision laserdisc in this collection. The recorders were expensive and were used mainly for industrial and commercial purposes.
